HFC phase down talks at MOP-25 in Bangkok
The phase down of HFC production and use was the focal point of discussions during the 25th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol (MOP-25) organized from October 21-25 in Bangkok, Thailand. However, despite discussions previously held at the highest levels, most notably with the USA, current progress towards an agreement remains impossible without a broader prior agreement on global warming.
The subject will be raised during the 19th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-19), to be held November 11-22, 2013 in Warsaw, Poland, though it remains unlikely that a common accord will be reached before 2015.
The IIR has regularly participated in these international meetings since 2000. You can read the statement made by Didier Coulomb, Director of the IIR, on October 25 in Bangkok as well as previous statements on our website.
